Paint Colors For Dining Rooms

Dining room paint colors should be appetizing. This doesn’t mean that you have to use bright reds and yellows like your favorite fast food restaurants since bold colors may overwhelm a small space. In modern homes the dining room is often an after thought or it may just be a part of your kitchen. If it’s open to the rest of you house you’ll need to create a space that flows together but still give the dining room enough pizzazz that it can stand on its own.

One of the biggest impacts you can make in a room is with painted dining room furniture. This look can work with anything from a country to a modern style and can revive old wood pieces. Go for a chocolate brown or black paint for a sleek, modern room.

A few years ago Tuscan furniture was all the rage but now seems dated. Your dining room might look like it needs a total overhaul but you really may just need to take some of the color out. Keep rich wood pieces and leather chairs, even if they have a touch of red in them. Take out most of the accessories in the room and replace the window treatments with simple shutters or woven grass blinds. For the wall color go with a green or a taupe with just a touch of gold to really compliment the red toned furniture.

Paint colors can be soothing without putting your guests to sleep. You may be working with white molding and taupe walls so it can match the rest of you home. Wood floors will add continuity between spaces. The key to a neutral dining room is to bring in warmth and character. This includes going for an oversized light fixture although you might want to spray paint the chain and decorative elements an oil rubbed bronze instead of going with dated brass. You can also add elaborate crown moldings to the ceilings. Slipcover your chairs in a warm terra cotta or peach color that will be appetizing and welcoming. Include a neutral oriental rug that pulls all of the colors in the room together for continuity.

Colors for a can create different feelings. A sleek gray may remind you of a favorite high scale restaurant. You’ll want to brighten it up with bright white chairs, floors and a capiz shell chandelier. If you want a little bit of a tropical feel but still need to keep an elegant, formal space then add white gauze curtains. For more of an opulent look without a theme then go with silk silver curtains.

If you use your formal dining room a lot you may want a stunning space that will wow your guests. You can use a deep terra cotta or even a coral paint on the walls. This will really work well with lighter wood tones. Distress your furniture with ivory paint and glass and add in antiqued gold accents throughout the space.

Paint can transform a dining room while saving you money. You can replicate designer looks by using the same color palette but incorporating your existing furniture to help your budget.
